Citrus Pepper Seasoning (Salt-Free)

How to Use

Rub this salt-free blend directly onto wings before they go in the oven or fryer. Season chicken before grilling, or press it onto pork chops right before they hit the pan. On seafood, a light dusting before cooking lets the citrus come through without a heavy coating getting in the way.

On vegetables, it's especially good on asparagus, green beans, or roasted broccoli, tossed with a little olive oil so the pepper and citrus actually cling rather than falling to the bottom of the pan. It also works well sprinkled over eggs or a salad for a quick citrus-pepper finish.

About this Spice

Lemon pepper usually leans on salt to carry most of its punch, which is a problem if you're avoiding sodium. This blend replaces that punch with orange peel alongside the lemon, and smoked Spanish paprika standing in for some of the depth salt would otherwise provide.

If you want to compare it to our other lemon pepper, Pyramid Peak Lemon Pepper is a completely different, much more complex blend built around warm baking spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and clove, worth trying if you want something further from a classic citrus-pepper profile. Citrus Pepper Seasoning FAQ

What is citrus pepper seasoning?

It's a salt-free lemon pepper, with orange peel and smoked paprika added, a great all-purpose rub for chicken, fish, and pork.

What does citrus pepper seasoning taste like?

Lemon, orange, garlic, and onion up front, with black pepper and a background smokiness from Spanish paprika underneath.

What is citrus pepper seasoning good for?

It's especially useful for anyone on a low-sodium or no-salt diet who still wants real lemon pepper flavor. It's also just a good all-purpose seasoning for chicken, fish, or vegetables regardless of diet.

How is this different from regular lemon pepper?

Beyond being salt-free, it also includes orange peel and smoked Spanish paprika, two ingredients standard lemon pepper doesn't have. That makes it more citrus-forward and adds a background smokiness that a straightforward lemon pepper lacks.

Can I use this in place of salt in a recipe?

Not as a direct salt substitute, but as a seasoning, yes. The citrus and pepper are built to provide the same kind of flavor lift salt normally would, so you can season a dish generously with this instead of reaching for the salt shaker.
